Why “Fort Hill”?
The hill behind the restaurant held Fort Yamhill, a frontier Army post from 1856 to 1866. A young lieutenant named Philip Sheridan served there before the Civil War made him famous, and the town of Sheridan down the road still carries his name. The fort is long gone; the name stayed. Good company has been stopping on this stretch of road for about 170 years.
